Ida Rebecca
Ida Rebecca was Russell's grandmother on his father's side. Ida was a strong woman who lived a rough life. She married her husband at the age of seventeen, and had thirteen children. One of thirteen of those children was a girl, the rest were boys. When her husband was fifty-two he suffered a stroke and died. On her own, Ida built herself up a stable community of her sons. Each son loved and respected Ida and would do whatever she told them.
Ida and Lucy did not get along because they were both high spirited and independent. Therefore when Russell was young the two fought over him constantly. They could never agree on how Russell should be brought up. Ida taught her grandson persistence and to never give up.
